How a woman screwed me in a hotel and then in business

It goes without saying that if you read my work that you know I’m “ok” at keeping the boundaries of sex around my place of business, but outside of that, I’m pretty fluid.

I have some “guiding principles” that I try and stick to, but for the most part, I make risk calculations on the fly and then manage the outcomes.

Aside from one incident where things got a bit messy, I’ve had pretty good results for the most part.

Whenever I’ve mixed “business and pleasure” I have always made an effort to ensure that things remain amicable to avoid any awkward situations afterward because the fucking might end, but the business relationship lives on.

About three years ago, I met a woman that I will refer to as Joan.

If I said her name, there is a better than average chance that a reasonable percentage of the people reading this would know her name and probably own her books and other things that she produces.

Joan is a significant player in the “self-improvement” space.

She and I were speaking in Las Vegas at an event and we were on a panel together on the second day.

Joan was one of the opening speakers, but not quite at the level where she would have been considered a “keynote” speaker for this size of an event, but she was still kind of a big deal to the audience.

My talk came in a smaller room during a breakout session later in the afternoon and the audience was quite good considering my topic is not really sexy for people who attend these things.

Slight tangent about authenticity…

Most people who go to events like this are looking for the speakers to tell them that they can do anything if they work hard and have an authentic message.

That’s largely nonsense. I’ve met many billionaires and more self-made millionaires than you could shake a stick at and most of those people were just the right combination of smart, cunning, marketable, and lucky.
