Time to Commission Internet Regulation

Technology has evolved over the years and presents some of the complex and most useful platforms for communication processes including social media and others. The development of these technologies has come along with opportunities for different people and organization to air their opinions, debate on varied issues, and/or research about a certain subject. The internet is an integral part of this development. Serious issues are arising from the increased use of the internet to communicate with family, friends, and even strangers in different locations. The internet has been mentioned in processes involving election, interference, data theft, and national security issues among others. Majorly, these issues arise as a result of lack of regulation of the internet which begs the questions: should the internet, especially the use of social media, be regulated?

It is only prudent that government agencies and international regulatory bodies develop some legal frameworks to regulate the use of internet around the world. The internet is one of the major developments in the world and the lack of regulatory frameworks has proven to be challenging so far. The world needs the internet regulatory framework to minimize the vulnerability of the users. Most of the internet users, especially social media users, are quite susceptible to fraud and other problems committed through the internet due to the lack of legal protection from data thieves and political propagandists. Regulating the use of the internet will be a panacea to most of the issues experienced by internet users around the world.
