Chad is a Central African country that is in the American news stream, of late, for all the wrong reasons. Many Americans are in fact finding out right now that a country named Chad actually exists. Because till now, they knew of only one Chad — the “hanging chad” (thanks to the 2000 Presidential election) and not the country Chad.

Every Chadian is puzzled with the latest announcement by the White House that Chad is one of the 8 countries that are in Trump’s latest travel ban list. Even senior officials of the Trump administration do not seem to have a clear understanding on why Chad is in the list. All the WH sources we reached out to gave inconsistent responses. But they all shared one thing consistently with us. That Pentagon and many State department officials were in fact not in favor of Trump adding Chad to the list.

So, why was Chad added to the list then?
