Snippets of Daze

And so it is, my stories continue in bits and pieces… snippets of my life.

I took a date to see Sly and the family Stone when I was in high school. Sly was so drunk he couldn’t walk across the stage. He stumbled to his mic and said, “Sly don’t feel like playing” then stumbled off the stage.

I’ve never seen a crowd so angry as we were that night. He’s probably lucky the tickets were only five or six dollars.

Anyone remember Bloodrock? Their only hit was a song titled Dead on Arrival. The same year Sly let us down I took another date to see Bloodrock. When they walked on stage they announced they were changing their direction and would no longer play Dead on Arrival.

Worst concert ever. Or was it?

I can’t remember the girl’s name but do I ever remember her body.

One of the worst concerts I ever saw was the new Lynyrd Skynyrd concert I didn’t plan to attend in Charlotte. It wasn’t that the concert was so bad. I had driven a tow truck from Greensboro to Charlotte to pick up a car that had broken down while in line to get in. I waited in the line for almost an hour to get to the car.

Then, when I hooked the car there was no place to turn around so I had no choice but to drive in the direction the highway patrol, Charlotte police, and various concert workers directed me. I asked again and again for help turning around but all they knew to do was wave me forward.

I ended up on the field where everyone was watching the show. I guess the guy who waved me through thought a tow truck with a car in tow was part of the show. What would have normally been a two hour trip took over 8 hours.

I’ll not talk about my worst concert experience, but the Pink Floyd Wall concert in Los Angeles in 1980 was amazing, and my ticket was free.

I’ve driven so many different trucks I can’t remember them all. International, White, Western Star, Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbuilt, Volvo, Ford, GMC, Dodge, Chevrolet, Sterling, Mack, Oshkosh, Reo… but one whose name escapes me was unique as it had…
